01 Premise

Every system you adopt changes how your people think, not only what they know.

Recommendation engines, dashboards and automated scoring tools were built to reduce cognitive load. In practice they relocate it — from calculation to judgment, from "what is the answer" to "should I trust this answer." That second question is almost never designed for.

We close that gap: diagnosing where trust in a system is miscalibrated, where decision fatigue is quietly degrading judgment, and where a process still assumes a kind of attention your people no longer have to give it.

// Core construct

Trust calibration — the degree to which a person's confidence in a system matches that system's actual reliability. Miscalibrated trust, in either direction, is among the most consistent drivers of decision failure in AI-augmented teams.

Five lines of intervention

Each stands on its own, and each sharpens the others — cognitive insight shapes how work is designed, how work is designed shapes what people can do, and all of it feeds back into strategy.

/ 01

Cognitive Strategy — Executive Level

We work with senior leadership on the quality of the decision itself — how strategic judgement forms under uncertainty, where executive attention is being spent, and which habits of thought are quietly shaping the direction of the organisation.

Workflow & Process Intelligence

We map how work actually moves through your organisation — the handoffs, the waiting, the rework — and redesign the points where process friction and human-technology interaction are costing you efficiency and accuracy.

Hybrid Intelligence

We design the working relationship between human expertise and machine capability — deciding where AI should lead, where people must, and how the two hand off cleanly so decisions, productivity and innovation all improve rather than one at the other's expense.

Task-Specific Performance Optimization

We analyse the cognitive demands of specific roles, tasks and environments — what they require of attention, memory and judgement — then reshape the work so individual and team performance improve at the point where the demand actually falls.

Innovative HR Practices

We rebuild HR strategy on behavioural science rather than convention — how people are selected, developed, motivated and retained — using cognitive insight and data to replace practices that persist mainly because they always have.

03 Industries

Where this applies

The discipline is constant; the pressure points are not. Each sector below fails in its own characteristic way — these are the ones where cognitive science has the most leverage.

What we deliver

We map how operators, supervisors and planners actually make calls on the floor — then redesign the alerts, dashboards and handover points around what human attention can genuinely absorb during a shift.

Workflow & Process IntelligenceTask-Specific PerformanceHybrid Intelligence

Why it's needed

Industry 4.0 rollouts add sensors, dashboards and automated flags far faster than people can absorb them. The result is alarm fatigue, inconsistent judgement between shifts and lines, and operators quietly overriding systems they don't trust. These are cognitive failures being managed as technical ones — so more dashboards keep making it worse.

What changes

Fewer avoidable stoppages and quality escapes, decisions that stay consistent across shifts and sites, and automation your people actually act on instead of working around.

What we deliver

We rebuild the decision layer between your models and your people — how scores and flags are presented, when a human must intervene, and how confidence is communicated so it can be judged rather than assumed.

Hybrid IntelligenceCognitive StrategyTask-Specific Performance

Why it's needed

Credit, fraud and compliance decisions are made at speed against model outputs whose reliability varies by case. Analysts drift into one of two failures: rubber-stamping the score, or ignoring it and reverting to instinct. Both look like productivity until a loss or an audit reveals which one was happening.

What changes

Trust in models calibrated to their actual accuracy, decision trails that hold up under audit, fewer needless escalations, and faster review cycles without the added risk that usually comes with speed.

What we deliver

We analyse the cognitive demands of clinical and administrative tasks — particularly at handover, at end of shift, and wherever staff work across several systems at once — and restructure the work so load falls away from the highest-risk moments.

Task-Specific PerformanceWorkflow & Process Intelligence

Why it's needed

Clinical staff carry sustained cognitive load across fragmented systems, and errors cluster predictably: at shift change, during interruptions, and late in long rotations. Most responses add another checklist or another screen, which increases the very load that caused the problem.

What changes

Reduced load at the moments that matter most, cleaner and more reliable handovers, and better protocol adherence achieved by removing steps rather than adding them.

What we deliver

We design the human side of intelligent products — how uncertainty is surfaced, how users learn when to rely on a recommendation, and how internal teams make build decisions without drowning in their own tooling.

Hybrid IntelligenceWorkflow & Process IntelligenceCognitive Strategy

Why it's needed

AI features ship with the model well tested and the human interaction barely designed. Users can't tell a confident output from a shaky one, so they either over-rely on it until it fails publicly, or abandon it and the investment quietly writes itself off.

What changes

Interfaces that communicate confidence honestly, measurably higher feature adoption and retention, and fewer expensive reversals after launch.

What we deliver

We rebuild people processes on behavioural evidence — structured selection, development designed for transfer rather than completion, and performance systems that measure what they claim to measure.

Innovative HR PracticesCognitive Strategy

Why it's needed

Hiring, promotion and performance decisions are still largely intuition formalised into paperwork. Bias enters at scale, interviews predict far less than people believe, and training is measured by attendance rather than by whether anyone can do anything differently afterwards.

What changes

Selection that actually predicts performance, development that changes behaviour on the job, fairer and more defensible decisions, and retention gains that trace back to specific process changes.

What we deliver

We design learning around how skill is actually acquired and retained — spacing, retrieval, cognitive load and transfer conditions — and build assessment that measures capability instead of exposure.

Task-Specific PerformanceInnovative HR Practices

Why it's needed

Most training optimises content delivery, then measures success by completion rates. Learners pass and forget, because the programme was designed around covering material rather than around the conditions under which people retain and transfer it.

What changes

Programmes that produce measurable capability change, retention that survives past the assessment, and evidence of transfer into real work rather than satisfaction scores.

04 Live Lab

Cognitive load,
demonstrated

Hick's Law is among the most reliable findings in decision science: the time it takes to choose grows with the number and complexity of the options in front of you. It is also among the most consistently ignored findings in system design.

Run the sequence — four rounds, each with more options than the last — and watch your own reaction time move in real time.

RT  =  a  +  b · log₂(n + 1)

A simplified single-subject illustration. Live engagements use controlled protocols matched to your specific decision environment and population.

AEVRYN // REACTION-TIME PROTOCOL Ready
4 rounds  ·  2 → 16 options

Each round, one cell is marked as the target. Select it as fast as you can. Every response is timed.

05 Process

A four-phase engagement

Every engagement moves through the same sequence, so diagnosis always precedes design, and design always precedes deployment.

PHASE 01

Discovery

We map the decisions actually being made — by whom, under what constraints — through interviews, shadowing and workflow review.

PHASE 02

Diagnosis

We locate where cognitive load, miscalibrated trust or structural friction are degrading decision quality, and quantify the cost.

PHASE 03

Design

We design the interventions — strategic, procedural, technological or structural — sized to the problem rather than to a template.

PHASE 04

Deployment

We support rollout and measure what changed, so the engagement closes with evidence rather than recommendations.

Sachin works at the intersection of human cognition, artificial intelligence and extended reality. His central question is a design question: how do we build intelligent systems that augment human judgment rather than overwhelm it? The answer, in his work, is rarely a smarter model — it is a better-calibrated relationship between the person and the system.

His research background spans cognitive load and trust calibration in AI-mediated decision-making, including work as a Research Assistant on the Anxiety-Sensitive Artificial Intelligence project, developing a systematic review of user anxiety and cognitive overload in AI interaction. As a UX researcher he has designed interaction models, spatial gestures and usability studies for augmented reality environments in Unity and Unreal, and has run behavioural experiments on decision-making, mental models and trust in interactive systems for product teams.

Alongside the research he has a decade of applied practice across counselling, career coaching, business analysis and training facilitation — the reason Aevryn's work lands as organisational change rather than academic recommendation. He is the author of Education and the Nature of Human Beings and The Lost Clouds, with a third book, The Cognitive Horizon, in development.
